The Building Societies Association (BSA) is a trade association that represents UK building societies. The association represents the interests of its membership to external sector organisations i.e. in matters of legislation etc) and also acts as a point of contact for building societies across the UK by making sure that they have all the information they need to operate. The way that the association has been set up also helps building societies communicate effectively with each other as well.
The BSA was set up in 1869 and now helps UK building societies with all issues relating to their methods of business and the products/services they offer to their customers. This does not include some elements related to mortgages as these are now handled by the Council of Mortgage Lenders. The role of the BSA is not regulatory in any way and it cannot help sort out disputes between building societies and their customers.
