Association of British Insurers

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) is a trade association that represents the interests of the entire insurance sector in the UK. Its members include all types of insurers that sell all types of insurance products and services. This includes life insurance, home insurance, health insurance, vehicle insurance and general savings and pensions insurance. The Association was created in 1985 by bringing together various specialist insurance trade associations under one sector umbrella so that the industry could be represented by a single body.

The ABI acts as the voice of the UK insurance industry and as a liaison between the general public and its members. It is estimated that over 90% of UK insurance business is undertaken by members of the ABI. It also takes responsibility for developing and maintaining high standards of customer service practice within the industry.
