An affinity card is a credit card that is linked to a certain cause, group, association or organisation. So, you can have a credit card that is issued by or that supports charities, football clubs or specific companies such as hotel chains. In most cases your affinity card will be branded with a logo or an image associated with the group you have chosen to support.
Most affinity cards work on the principle of rewarding the group you choose with specific cash donations whenever you spend money on your card. They will also make a one-off donation when you apply for the card in the first place. So, if you choose an affinity card that supports a charity then they?ll be given an up front donation from your card company when your card is issued. Thereafter they are guaranteed a percentage of your credit card spending. Some affinity cards don?t donate in this way but offer you rewards schemes instead.
