Affidavit swear

Whenever you swear an affidavit you make a legal statement to a court or to a qualified legal professional that certain facts are true. You can make an oral affidavit or a written one. In either case you will take an oath that the statements you will be making are, as far as you know, completely accurate. The affidavit will then be recorded ? it will become a legally binding document once witnessed and processed by a qualified professional such as a solicitor, court officer or notary.

An affidavit can be used in a court of law as an alternative to calling a witness. It can also be used in certain other legal matters. For example, you can use an affidavit as a ?statement of identity?. So, if you plan on getting married abroad, you may well be asked to take along verified affidavits stating that you and your future spouse are who you say you are.
