Affiant

In legal terms an affiant is an individual that takes out an affidavit. So, if you want to take out an affidavit you, as the affiant, will be responsible for swearing that the information it contains is true.

An affidavit is a legal document that is created in writing that states something as being true to the best knowledge of the person that is making it. So, the affiant that takes out the affidavit has a legal responsibility to swear that the information that the affidavit contains is correct. The affidavit is the sworn statement that you make and will sign as the affiant. You will generally sign this document before a qualified legal practitioner that is authorised to administer your oath. In certain cases an affiant may also be known as a deponent.
